It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? #14

It's Monday What Are You Reading

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey where you share what you read in the past week, what you hope to read this week, and anything else in between! I haven’t participated in this meme since October, so I thought it was about time to make a post again. Enjoy!

Between Monday, February 29th and now, I’ve completed the following books:

IMWAYR 1

This was actually the second time I’ve read Night Film and I still really enjoyed it! I had forgotten a lot of details from the book since it had been so long since I first read it, so it was great to read it again! I highly recommend it to those who are fans of mystery novels. I also finished This Is Where It Ends and unfortunately, I didn’t like it as much as I thought I was going to. I picked up the book because it sounded like it was going to be intense and emotional, but it really lacked in both departments. I didn’t connect with the characters and I felt like the plot was really lacking.

This past week I also read the following novella:

The Crown and the Arrow

  • The Crown and the Arrow by Renée Ahdieh (The Wrath and the Dawn #0.5)

This novella was extremely short (9 pages) so we didn’t get a lot out of it. I liked being inside Khalid’s head and it definitely made me want to reread The Wrath and the Dawn, but other than that, I don’t think the novella added anything special to the series.

This past week I continued reading but didn’t finish:

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda

I started my reread of this book last month, but because I’ve been sick, I’ve only read up to page 120. I managed to read 35 pages of it this week and I’m really hoping to finish it soon!

This past week I DNF’d:

The Adoration of Jenna Fox

I randomly picked up this book while at the library because I love Mary E. Pearson’s The Remnant Chronicles series. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into this book. I found the writing to be extremely choppy and nothing like what I remember from Pearson’s other novels. Also, the characters and plot weren’t pulling me in. I considered pushing through and finishing it because the book itself isn’t that long, but in the end I just had to DNF it.

What I want to read next:

Other than finishing Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, I’m not sure what I’m going to read next. I have several books checked out from the library and a few coming in the mail tomorrow, but I’m not sure what I’m in the mood for. Also, I’ve been sick for a month now with vertigo and headaches which makes reading hard. I hope to get back to normal soon!

What book(s) have you finished this past week? Did you enjoy them? What do you plan on reading next? Let me know down in the comments!

Awesome list! I am putting off The Crown and The Arrow because it is so very short. I may not read it at all. Is it worth it?

I finished Frozen Tides, which I liked quite a bit. I don’t think it lives up to the Song of Ice and Fire comparison, but it is enjoyable YA Fantasy. I also finished Glass Sword, which I did not like. I reviewed it on my blog if you are interested.

I also started reading The Last Days of Magic by Mark Tompkins and am pretty much in love with it. So good!

It’s really up to you if you want to read The Crown and the Arrow! It wasn’t really a waste of time (in my opinion) since it only took me a few minutes to read. I don’t think it adds much to the series, but you can definitely still read it if you want to!

I love the Falling Kingdoms series! It’s definitely one of my favorite YA fantasy series. I haven’t read the Song of Ice and Fire series yet but I want to!

I’ve heard some mixed things about Glass Sword so I’m hesitant to pick it up. I liked Red Queen but I didn’t absolutely love it. It was quite forgettable – I read it in December but I already forget pretty much everything that happened!

I’m glad you’re enjoying the book you’re currently reading! I haven’t heard of it, but I’ll definitely have to look it up.

Ahhh yes. I have The Crown and the Arrow on my (digital) bookshelf right now and I’m super stoked to read it, even if it’s not anything special. I just love that series so much and want to know more. 😛

I’m sad about This is Where it Ends — I haven’t actually finished it, but I too was expecting it to be emotional, and the writing style didn’t seem to be my thing when I started the book. How many stars would you give it out of five?

I hope you enjoy The Crown and the Arrow when you read it!

I ended up giving This Is Where It Ends only 1.5 stars (which I don’t do too often). I was really disappointed – I was expecting so much more from the book!
