In 2017 I signed up for 5 different reading challenges, which I announced in this post. Throughout the year I’ve been working hard to complete these 5 challenges and I’m happy to report that I did in fact complete them all!! I’m so, so thrilled about this! Last year I didn’t complete any of my challenges so I’m super ecstatic that I did A LOT better this year.
1. Goodreads Reading Challenge
My Goal: Read 70 books (originally 75)
Number of Books Completed: 78 books (111%)
Not only did I complete this challenge but I surpassed my goal by 8 books! I most definitely count that as a huge win. Partway through the year I decided to lower my goal from 75 to 70 because I was really behind and I’m glad I did. It took some of the pressure off of me. I think next year I might make my goal even lower so that I don’t feel pressured again. I’m not sure yet what my exact goal will be though.
2. Beat the Backlist Reading Challenge
My Goal: Read 25 backlist books
Number of Books Completed: 26 books (104%)
Whew! I just barely completed this one! I read SO many 2017 releases this year which is the opposite of what I should have been doing for this reading challenge. (Over 50% of the books I read this year were 2017 releases.) Still, I made it! I’m not sure if I’m going to do this challenge next year or not. If I do, I’ll probably lower my goal a little.
3. Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge
My Goal: Read 25 fantasy books
Number of Books Completed: 33 books (132%)
I definitely set a good goal number for this challenge! Last year I set a goal of 40 books thinking I’d easily reach it. However, I was only able to read 27 fantasy books. So I lowered my goal this year and it really paid off! I’ll probably do this challenge again next year with the same goal.
4. Library Love Challenge
My Goal: Read 12 library books
Number of Books Completed: 41 books (342%)
Wow, I kicked this challenge’s ass!! Since I didn’t come close to completing this challenge last year, I decided to shoot for the lowest goal level of 12 books. Well, I definitely achieved my goal and then some! I’ve definitely been utilizing my local library a lot this year since I didn’t have lots of extra money to spend on books. If I do this challenge next year (which I probably will), I’ll definitely go for one of the higher goal levels – maybe 24 or 36 books. So unless I win the lottery, I’ll probably be able to hit that goal!
5. Alphabet Soup Reading Challenge
My Goal: Read a book starting with each letter of the alphabet
Number of Letters Completed: 26 letters (100%)
I’m SO happy I completed this challenge!! I came super close to completing it last year (I think I was like 3 letters off) so it’s super satisfying being able to complete it this year. I only had to slightly cheat with one letter, X, because I couldn’t find a book I was interested in that started with that letter. So instead, I read Moxie which has X in the title – just not as the starting letter. Oh well. I’m still counting it as a win!
If you participated in any 2017 reading challenges, how did you do? Did you complete them all, come close to completing them, or completely miss the mark (like I did last year)? Let me know in the comments and/or link me to your wrap up post!
