Down the TBR Hole #6

Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole was created by Lia @ Lost in a Story with a goal of trying to reduce the size of your Goodreads TBR. Each time (aka each blog post) you:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
  • Sort it by ascended date added
  • Pick the first 5 (or 10) books
  • Read the synopses of these books
  • Decide if you want to keep the books on your TBR or if they should go

It’s up to you how often you participate in this meme. Personally, I try (emphasis on the word “try”) to take part once a week. If you need more information on Down the TBR Hole, click here to go to Lia’s blog post.

The Books:

1. The Cursed Heir by Morgan Rhodes

The Cursed Heir (Fake Cover)

This book had no official cover when I added it to my TBR back in 2015 and it still doesn’t have a cover today. So, I improvised (aka spent 2 seconds on Paint) and made a fake cover to use as a stand-in. Hopefully the real one will be revealed soon! I believe this book was supposed to come out in summer of 2017 but it has been pushed back to August of 2018. I’m definitely still interested in reading this book because it’s the third book in a trilogy and I must see how it ends!

Verdict: Staying

2. And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini

And the Mountains Echoed

I read and loved two of Khaled Hosseini’s other books back in 2015 and for some reason have not gotten around to reading this one. I’m definitely still interested in reading it though! The next time I’m in the mood for an adult historical fiction novel, I’ll check out And the Mountains Echoed from the library.

Verdict: Staying

3. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

Grave Mercy

Another book I’m still interested in reading! I actually read the first few pages of this book a couple months ago, but decided to put it down for the moment because I wasn’t in the mood for it. I definitely hope to get to this book in the near future because it sounds really interesting!

Verdict: Staying

4. Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Uprooted

I’m definitely going to keep this book on my TBR as well! I’ve heard great things about Uprooted and I seriously don’t know why I haven’t read it yet. I’m still kicking myself over not buying the beautiful UK edition (pictured above) when I had the chance before it went out of print.

Verdict: Staying

5. Shade Me by Jennifer Brown

Shade Me

I almost completely forgot about this book until I saw it on my TBR. I checked the Goodreads page and saw that a lot of my Goodreads friends rated it 2-3 stars and that really sealed the deal for me. If I’m not really interested in the book anymore and it doesn’t seem like the book is that great then why should I keep it on my TBR?

Verdict: Going

I’m managing to lower my TBR – even if it’s only one book at a time! Do you participate in Down the TBR Hole? Leave a link to your post for this week in the comments if you’d like!

The Books:

1. Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld

Zeroes

This is a book I’ve definitely lost interest in so I’m going to remove it from my TBR. (That was a quick decision!)

Verdict: Going

2. Golden Boy by Abigail Tarttelin

Golden Boy

Golden Boy has been on my TBR for awhile (okay all of these have) but I’m still interested in checking this out. I keep forgetting about it because 1) I don’t own it and 2) the only library in my area that has it is one I don’t go to very often. Hopefully one day soon I’ll get around to reading this book!

Verdict: Staying

3. Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed

Written in the Stars

I don’t know why I haven’t read this book yet! I checked it out a few times from the library and then I ended up buying it when it was on sale on Book Outlet but I still haven’t read it! Hopefully I do soon!

Verdict: Staying

4. Golden Son by Pierce Brown

Golden Son

I read the first book in this series, Red Rising, in 2015 (I think?) and I didn’t absolutely love it. I wanted to give the series another chance by reading the sequel, Golden Son, but too much time has passed and there are a billion other books I’d rather read instead.

Verdict: Going

5. Immortal Reign by Morgan Rhodes

Immortal Reign

Of course Immortal Reign is staying on my TBR!! I cannot wait to read this book! It’s the sixth and final book in one of my favorite fantasy series and it’s coming out in February.

Verdict: Staying

I’m happy that I was able to remove 2 more books from my TBR this week! Do you participate in Down the TBR Hole? Leave a link to your post for this week in the comments if you’d like!

The Books:

1. Undertow by Michael Buckley

Undertow

Yeah, I know right away I’m going to remove this one from my TBR. I lost interest in this book not long after I added it to my TBR but never actually got around to removing it.

Verdict: Going

2. Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys

Out of the Easy

Like I mentioned in last week’s post, I have 3 Ruta Sepetys books on my TBR and I’m still very much interested in reading them!

Verdict: Staying

3. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler

The Summer of Chasing Mermaids

I’m definitely still interested in reading this book! However, I lent it to my friend months ago (when I wasn’t in the mood for contemporary and she was) but I have yet to get it back. I actually completely forgot about it until now. Oops! I’ll get around to reading this book eventually!

Verdict: Staying

4. Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman

Vengeance Road

I’m still interested in reading this book as well! It sounds really interesting and I’ve heard some good things about it!

Verdict: Staying

5. Rebel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson

Rebel Mechanics

This is another book I’m still interested in reading! I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I even own it so I don’t know what’s taking me so long to read it!

Verdict: Staying

Well, I only ended up removing 1 book from my TBR this week. But 1 is better than none! Do you participate in Down the TBR Hole? Leave a link to your post for this week in the comments if you’d like!

The Books:

1. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

The Name of the Wind

At first I wasn’t sure what to do about this book. It’s been on my TBR for a long time now and while my library has a copy of it, I’ve never really felt the inclination to check it out. However, I was looking at the book’s Goodreads page and a lot of my Goodreads friends rated it 5 stars. So, for now it’s going to stay on my never-ending TBR. I hope I’m eventually able to get around to reading it one day!

Verdict: Staying

2. Nocte by Courtney Cole

Nocte

I saw this book on my list and I’ll be honest, I barely even remember adding it to my TBR. However, according to Goodreads I did add it on May 15, 2015. So since I obviously don’t really remember why I even added the book to my TBR in the first place and since my library doesn’t have a copy of the book (I’d have to buy it if I wanted to read it), I’m going to be removing Nocte from my TBR. Let me know if this is a mistake down in the comments!

Verdict: Going

3. Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Between Shades of Gray

I have 3 books by Ruta Sepetys both on my Goodreads TBR and my physical TBR, but I still have yet to read a book by her. I’ve heard such great things about Ruta’s books so I have no idea why I haven’t picked one up yet. I definitely should soon!

Verdict: Staying

4. Riders by Veronica Rossi

Riders

I haven’t heard too many people talking about this book but, for some reason, I’m not ready to take it off my TBR just yet. It sounds really interesting!

Verdict: Staying

5. This Monstrous Thing by Mackenzi Lee

This Monstrous Thing

Earlier this year, I read Mackenzi Lee’s second novel, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, and I really enjoyed it! I really want to read this book as well and since I’ve owned it for quite some time now, I really have no excuse as to why I haven’t read it yet (except for the billions of other books I want to read.)

Verdict: Staying

6. Blood, Ink & Fire by Ashley Mansour

Blood, Ink & Fire

This is another book I barely remember adding to my TBR. That coupled with the fact that this book is a dystopian novel (which I don’t really care to read anymore) and that the library doesn’t have a copy makes me come to the decision to remove Blood, Ink & Fire from my TBR.

Verdict: Going

7. Scion of the Sun by Nicola Marsh

Scion of the Sun

Same thing as before. Barely remember adding it + library doesn’t have a copy = me losing interest.

Verdict: Going

8. Touch by Claire North

Touch

Again, with this book I don’t really remember adding it! And again, my library doesn’t have a copy. So I’m just going to do what I did with the previous books and remove Touch from my TBR.

Verdict: Going

9. The Demigod Diaries by Rick Riordan

The Demigod Diaries

I will pretty much read anything Rick Riordan writes so I know I’m going to read this companion story eventually!

Verdict: Staying

10. Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes

Same as above! I read and enjoyed Rick’s other companion book, Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, so I’m sure I will enjoy this book too!!

Verdict: Staying

I did pretty good this week! I ended up removing 4 books from my TBR. Nice! Do you participate in Down the TBR Hole? Let me know in the comments below and leave a link to your post for this week if you’d like!

The Books:

1. The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

The Final Empire

I’ve heard really great things about this series and I own the beautiful UK copies of the whole trilogy so I really don’t know why I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Hopefully I will sometime soon(ish).

Verdict: Staying

2. Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

Ruby Red

This is another case of owning the whole series yet still not starting it. I’m not sure when I’ll get around to this series but I’m still interested in it!

Verdict: Staying

3. The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski

The Winner's Crime

I read the first book in this series, The Winner’s Curse, awhile ago (I think maybe in 2015) and I didn’t absolutely love it like everyone else seems to. I did like it though and I’m interested in rereading it and then continuing on with The Winner’s Crime!

Verdict: Staying

4. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

Poison Study

I can’t believe I haven’t read this book yet! I’ve heard so many good things about this book so I really need to get to it soon!

Verdict: Staying

5. Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi

Furthermore

I haven’t read anything else by Tahereh Mafi except her Shatter Me series which I really loved! I really want to read another book by her so this book is definitely staying on my TBR.

Verdict: Staying

6. A Million Worlds with You by Claudia Gray

A Million Worlds with You

I’m most definitely keeping this on my TBR – I have to see how this series ends! I really liked the other two books so I’m hoping I’ll like this one too!

Verdict: Staying

7. Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

Ink and Bone

I once tried reading this book for the Try a Chapter Tag earlier this year and was only able to read 10 pages. It just wasn’t interesting me at the time and I’m not sure if it will in the future. However, I’m going to leave it on my TBR for now.

Verdict: Staying… for now

8. The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

The Knife of Never Letting Go 4

This is another book that I’ve heard great things about but just haven’t gotten around to yet. I loved Patrick Ness’s other books More Than This and A Monster Calls and I’m looking forward to reading another book by him!

Verdict: Staying

9. The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows

The Orphan Queen

I’ve read one book that this author co-wrote, My Lady Jane, and I absolutely loved it! I’m interested in checking out another book by this author.

Verdict: Staying

10. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

The Raven Boys

I own the whole Raven Cycle series and so many people have told me how great this series is but I don’t know if I’m still interested in reading it. I guess I’ll leave it on my TBR for now but it’s not at the top of my list.

Verdict: Staying… for now

Well… I didn’t remove a single book from my TBR in this week’s post. Oops! Maybe I’ll do better in the next post. Do you participate in Down the TBR Hole? Let me know in the comments below and leave a link to your post for this week if you’d like!

Down the TBR Hole #1

Down the TBR Hole

Hi everyone! When working on scheduling posts, I realized I had an open spot on Mondays. Since I would like to have a recurring type of post every Monday, I decided to start participating in a new (to me) meme! Down the TBR Hole was created by Lia @ Lost in a Story and here’s how it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
  • Sort it by ascended date added
  • Pick the first 5 (or 10) books
  • Read the synopses of these books
  • Decide if you want to keep the books on your TBR or if they should go

This meme will not only provide a different kind of content on my blog, but it will also hopefully help me reduce the size of my TBR! Each book cover links to Goodreads. Let’s get started!

The Books:

1. Burn for Burn by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian

Burn for Burn

This book is the very first book I added to my Goodreads TBR (that’s still there anyway) way back on June 9, 2014! I only recently obtained this book sometime earlier this year but I still haven’t read it. The book does sound intriguing and since I do own it, I don’t think I’m ready to cross it off my TBR just yet.

Verdict: Staying

2. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Under the Never Sky

I added this book to my TBR so long ago that I’ve completely lost interest in it now. I believe this book is a dystopian book and I don’t really read those books anymore.

Verdict: Going

3. The Archived by Victoria Schwab

The Archived

I believe this was the first Victoria Schwab novel I added to my TBR! I have since read 4 Schwab novels but I still haven’t read this one! I definitely want to read this book (and its sequel) but I want to wait until the third book is published. I don’t like starting unfinished series if it can be avoided!

Verdict: Staying

4. Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini

Trial by Fire

Hmm, I’m not quite sure what to do about this book. I’m more hesitant to remove books that I own from my TBR. I think I’m going to keep it on there for now, but I may remove it in the future.

Verdict: Staying… for now

5. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sàenz

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

I’ve owned this book for SO long! I can’t believe I still haven’t read it! I’ve heard so many great things about this book. I seriously need to read it soon!

Verdict: Staying

6. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

All The Light We Cannot See

I added this book to my TBR at a time when I was hearing so many good things about it. Since the buzz has died down, I’ve almost completely forgotten about this book! I still would like to read it sometime in the future though.

Verdict: Staying

7. The Trials by Stacey Kade

The Trials

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and I was dying to read this book when I added it to my TBR way back in 2014. However, when it was published in 2015 I had already lost interest in the series. Now it’s 2017 and I haven’t regained any interest in the series.

Verdict: Going

8. Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Steelheart 2

This book has been on my TBR for awhile now and I’m still interested in reading it! I own the book so I really don’t know why I haven’t read it yet.

Verdict: Staying

9. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The Book Thief

I’m definitely keeping this book on my TBR! I can’t believe I haven’t read this book yet! I’ve heard so many good things about it and I really, really want to get around to it soon.

Verdict: Staying

10. The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

The Bone Season

I’ve owned this book for quite some time now and I still haven’t read it. I mean, I attempted to read it a few times but never got past the first few pages because it really confused me. I think it’s time I give up on this book for now.

Verdict: Going

I’m pretty proud of myself for  removing 3 books from my TBR! It’s not much but it’s a start! Do you participate in Down the TBR Hole? Let me know in the comments below and leave a link to your post for this week if you’d like!
